Read Proud: Our Pride Month Selections (And We Want Your Help!)
Happy Pride Month!
June is here, and with it comes Pride Month — a time to celebrate love, identity, and the stories that help us see ourselves and each other more clearly. Here at Better Oft Read, we believe that books have a unique power to build empathy, spark conversation, and remind us that every life deserves to be told.
So this year, we put together a small Pride Month collection — and we do mean small. We're being honest with you: we're a little shop still growing our inventory, and right now our LGBTQ+ shelf is just getting started. But we'd rather shine a light on a few truly wonderful titles than pretend we have it all figured out.
The books we've featured this month are stories about identity, family, belonging, and the courage it takes to live authentically — sometimes in places and times that made that very hard. We're proud to have them on our (virtual) shelves.
Here's Where You Come In
We want to build this section into something really special, and honestly? You know better than we do what's missing.
So we're asking: What LGBTQ+ books do you love and want to see us carry?
A title that changed how you saw the world. A novel you press into people's hands. A memoir that made you feel less alone. A young adult book you wish you'd had growing up. We want to hear it all.
Leave a comment below or send your suggestions to us directly on Instagram and Facebook — we read everything. Your recommendations will genuinely shape what we stock next!
Because that's the thing about a small bookshop: it can actually listen.
Happy Pride Month. Keep reading, keep sharing, and know that whatever story you're living — it belongs on the shelf.
